“July 23” Drowning Accident Sounds Alarm ― Taiyuan Environmental Company-Wide Safety Training Strengthens Safety Protocols

On July 25, Jiangsu Taiyuan Environmental Technology Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as “Taiyuan Environmental”) conducted a company-wide safety training session aimed at enhancing corporate safety awareness. All on-site employees at the headquarters participated in person, while staff at project construction and operation sites, as well as subsidiaries and production centers in locations such as Nanjing and Hunan, joined simultaneously via video conference.
By adopting a hybrid online and offline format, the training achieved comprehensive participation, ensuring that safety principles were effectively communicated to every employee.

At the meeting, General Manager Pan Hailong addressed the recent "July 23" incident—where six students from Northeastern University drowned in a flotation tank at Wunugetushan Copper-Molybdenum Mine due to a collapsed guard plate—to underscore the critical importance of safety compliance.

Mr. Pan emphasized that all personnel, including production and design staff as well as construction and operation teams at project sites, must strictly follow safety procedures and avoid complacency or risk-taking. He urged department heads to fully assume safety management responsibilities, enhance daily inspections and risk identification, and ensure all safety measures are thoroughly implemented.

He also highlighted the need to stay alert around potential hazards such as manholes, pools, and trenches—especially during rainy seasons and night operations—and reminded employees to adhere to safety guidelines for electric vehicles, including charging protocols, calling on everyone to stay vigilant and put safety requirements into practice.

The Head of the company’s HSE (Health, Safety, and Environment) Department also shared reflections inspired by the recent safety incident. He stated that the company will strengthen safety management across four core dimensions: personnel, equipment, environment, and management.

To more clearly communicate safety requirements and operational protocols, he also presented a video that highlighted potential hazards in daily work and life, effectively raising overall safety awareness and laying a solid foundation for ongoing safety efforts.

In her concluding remarks, Lu Chun, Chairwoman of the company, emphasized the comprehensive nature of safety management. She noted that today coincides with World Drowning Prevention Day, highlighting that drowning remains a major threat to children and adolescents worldwide.
While underscoring the importance of water safety, she called for embracing a “holistic approach to safety”—stressing that robust safety precautions must be established not only in production and operational activities, but also in household environments; not only in routine operations, but also in the application of new technologies.

During the event, the company also presented scholarship awards to employees’ outstanding children in the spring of 2025. These scholarships not only recognize the students’ academic achievements, but also reflect the company’s commitment to its people-first philosophy.

For years, Taiyuan Environmental has adhered to the principle of “balancing enterprise development with employee growth.” While strengthening safety management, the company continues to enhance its employee care system, extending support to employees’ families in various ways and genuinely boosting a sense of belonging and well-being.

Cultivating safety awareness is an ongoing journey—
one that requires continuous learning and practice.
Let’s start now, start with ourselves,
identify potential hazards around us,
and protect the safety of both ourselves and others.
